If you have sent money to a person you have never transacted with, he/she will not be able to confirm the transfer as he doesn’t know your phone number. After sending money, you have to call the person to inform them and tell them your number if they don’t know it. They will receive an SMS requesting them to dial *144# and accept the transfer by entering the sender’s number. Therefore, if you have sent money to the wrong person, they will not know your number. All the amount transfered and the charges will be sent back to you automatically after 5 days if the transfer is not confirmed.

Multiple transaction rule: To protect you from mistakenly making the same transaction twice, Afrimoney will check if you have performed a similar successful transaction within the hour.If that is the case, you will receive a message asking you to confirm if you want to repeat that transaction.

Protection from fraud. When you send to an Africell customer for the first time, they will receive an SMS requesting them to dial *144# to accept the transfer by entering the sender’s number in the confirmation menu. You can view up to 5 pending transfers to be confirmed

How to get started with Afrimoney
Getting started with Afrimoney is very easy. Visit any Africell Shop today with the following:
provide identification with a valid picture e.g voter's card, passport, driving permit, student ID, employer or LC ID.
You will be given a form to fill in your details
Once your account has been created, you will receive an SMS requesting you to change your Afrimoney PIN

How to deposit on your account

After registering for Afrimoney, you can proceed to deposit on your account. visit any Africell Shop or authorised Afrimoney Agent.

1.
Hand your ID to the afrimoney Agent
2.
Give him/her your afrimoney number
3.
Hand money to the agent. The agent will fill in the transaction book with your name, afrimoney number, ID, transaction type and amount
4.
Confirm the transaction details
5.
Receive an SMS notification detailing transaction ID (include date and time), transaction amount and new account balance
6.
Sign in the transaction book (don’t forget to get back your ID)
How to send
How to send money to an Africell customer

Afrimoney enables you to securely and quickly send money to other Africell customers. Follow the instructions below to send:

1.
Dial *144#
2.
Select the ‘send money’ option.
3.
Choose the option ‘send to Africell Customer’
4.
Enter the recipient’s phone number
5.
Confirm the transaction details
6.
Enter your Afrimoney PIN
7.
Receive SMS confirmation of the transaction (if it is the first time you transfer to a particular person, you will receive the SMS confirmation once they have confirmed the transaction by entering your phone number
8.
If the receiver is an Africell Customer who has not yet registered with Afrimoney, they will have 15 days to register. If they do not register on time, the money and all charges will be transfered back to you
9.
If it’s the first time you send money to a particular person, remind them to confirm within 5 days of the confirmation by entering your phone number.

How to send money to Other Networks

Send money to non-Africell customers, even those without phones. Simply follow the following instructions

1.
Dial *144#
2.
Select the ‘send money’ option.
3.
Choose the option ‘send to Other Networks’
4.
Enter the recipient’s phone number
5.
Confirm the transaction details e.g names, number, amount, & charges
6.
Enter your Afrimoney PIN
7.
Receive SMS confirmation of the transaction with; amount sent, charges, balance, receiver number

How to send money to an non-Africell customer

Send money to non-Africell customers, even those without phones. Simply follow the following instructions

1.
Dial *144#
2.
Select the ‘send money’ option.
3.
Choose the option ‘send to non-Africell Customer’
4.
Input the amount of money to send
5.
Receive a secret passcode by SMS
6.
Enter your Africell Money PIN
7.
Communicate the secret passcode to the receiver
8.
Confirm the transaction details
9.
Communicate the secret passcode to the receiver
10.
Receiver has 15 days to withdraw the amount at any Afrimoney Agent

How to withdraw cash for an Africell Customer

Once you’ve deposited money on your Afrimoney account. You can follow the following procedure in order

1.
Visit an Afrimoney Agent
2.
Confirm that the agent has enough cash for your transaction
3.
Hand your ID to the Afrimoney Agent and give them your Afrimoney number
4.
You will receive an SMS requesting you to confirm the transaction by entering your Afrimoney PIN
5.
Once the withdrawal is successful, you will receive an SMS notification detailing the transaction ID (includes date and time), transaction amount and new account balance
6.
Take your cash, ID.
How to withdraw cash for a non-Africell Customer

The non-Africell customer receiving Afrimoney should do the following in order to withdraw the money sent

1.
Visit an Afrimoney Agent
2.
Confirm that the agent has enough cash for your transaction
3.
Hand your ID to the Afrimoney Agent
4.
Give the agent the secret passcode
5.
Take your cash and ID

How to buy airtime

You can buy airtime quickly and conveniently using your Afrimoney account. Simply do the following

1.
Dial *144#
2.
Select the ‘Airtime’ option.
3.
Enter the amount of airtime you want to buy
4.
Enter your Afrimoney PIN
You will receive an SMS notification detailing transaction ID, transaction amount and new account balance
short code (buying airtime): *144#1 * 2 * amount of airtime to buy * Afrimoney PIN#

In case you want to change your Afrimoney PIN, follow the procedure below to effect the change

1.
Dial *144#
2.
Choose option ‘My Account’ option then select the ‘Change PIN’option.
3.
Type your current Africell PIN code (if it is the 1st change, the default Afrimoney PIN code is ‘0000’)
4.
Enter your new Afrimoney PIN code
5.
Re-enter your new Afrimoney PIN code
6.
Receive a confirmation SMS
